Early Inspiration
Obijiski says, "Even as a child I wrote stories, and I always kept a journal. My work might not have been insightful, and I probably lacked the vocabulary to dabble in imagery or evoke emotion, but I always had something to say. Words always excited and moved me, and I always wanted to learn more."
As an avid and diverse reader, Susan was deeply influenced by powerful literary works such as To Kill a Mockingbird, Black Like Me, Animal Farm, and Johnny Got His Gun. Her appreciation for literature later expanded to authors like Stephen King, whose ability to place ordinary people in extraordinary situations continues to inspire her approach to character and storytelling. For her, the best writing is immersive--built through strong imagery, compelling characters, and stories that stay with the reader long after the final page.
The Writing Process
Susan says, "What I enjoy most about writing is the moment when a scene or character comes fully alive on the page, translating imagination into something tangible."
While she acknowledges the challenges of patience and creative timing, she sees writing as a practice in humility, perseverance, and dedication to the craft.
